剎車盤與剎車鼓的本質區別
    有些汽車采用四輪剎車盤,有些汽車前輪采用剎車盤,后輪采用剎車鼓.在剎車鼓中,液壓被施加到活塞上,活塞將曲形制動蹄推出。粘合或鉚釘在制動蹄上的摩擦材料壓住剎車鼓   內部,減緩剎車鼓和車軸的轉動,然后汽車就會停下來,但是剎車鼓摩擦生熱,導致膨脹。制摩擦材料發熱產生的氣體也被困在制動蹄和剎車鼓內部,減弱了制動能力。
   汽車制造商在剎車鼓上添加散熱片或鋁制材料,來冷卻剎車鼓和金屬制動襯面,但這不是高性能制動裝置的解決方案。于是出現了剎車盤。通過施加到制動鉗上的液壓力,摩擦材料夾住轉動的制動片。和封閉式剎車鼓不同,剎車盤是敞開式的。剎車盤還有一個優點,臟東西和氣體會被旋轉的剎車盤甩出去,而剎車鼓會聚集臟東西。有些剎車盤帶孔或槽,在制動片和盤片摩擦物質表面的水和氣體可以通過孔徑,這樣制動裝置可以立刻發揮作用。
